Our Mission

Based in the Czech Republic, GL Africa is a non-profit organization striving to support abandoned children in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our primary mission is to aid local children with the financial support that is provided by our donors. We place great focus on providing the orphans with a quality education not only to improve their future job opportunities but also to ease the process of their reintegration into society on reaching adulthood.

Our Team

Czech Republic

Ondrej Jirasek — “OJ”

OJ is the founder and chairman of GL Africa. He manages and coordinates all the activities related to the NGO. His main motivation is to help abandoned children reach high-quality education and succeed in future life without their parents.

Jakub Kovar — “James”

James has officially become GL Africa’s Member of the Board in December 2016. James helps to coordinate the operations of GL Africa as well as actively seeks sponsors for the organization’s not-for-profit activities. Having personally encountered the hardships that orphaned children must go through, James realized that the less privileged ones must be supported early in their lives.

Jacob has become a member of GL Africa’s team in October 2017. As a College student in the U.S.A., Jacob devotes part of his spare time to run GL Africa’s social media, maintain its website, and communicate with local team members from Africa. His main objective is to reveal the organization’s mission to the world and thus shape the image of GL Africa in accordance with its core competencies.

Anna has joined GL Africa in March 2018 as a volunteer in Tanzania. With her College degree from Social Welfare and Children Education, Anna overlooks the educational development of the children. Also, she periodically reports to us what happens in the orphanage. Anna enjoys talking to the children to give them a chance to express their feelings and dreams.

In Cameroon, we work with the Foyer de l'Enfance Sainte Thérèse d'Obili orphanage in Yaoundé. Our main goal is to provide the children there with a high-quality education and thus help them on their way to self-sufficiency and future employment. Sponsorship takes the form of continuous financial support to develop an individual’s future.

Our Partners

The orphanage currently accommodates 36 children up to 14 years of age who lack a family support structure. The orphanage was founded in 2007, and is officially authorized by the Cameroonian government. The Sisters of Sainte Therese are both the founders of the orphanage and the providers of care for the children. An important complement to the orphanage is the Ecole Catholique Bilingue Notre Dame de la Résurrection school, which provides nursery and primary education with a special focus on the teaching of languages. We have chosen to work with this orphanage and school mainly because of their kind and warmhearted attitude toward the orphans as well as for their dedication to imparting a high-quality education.

We are looking for sponsors for those children selected by the orphanage in Yaoundé. An annual donation of 25.000 CZK or its equivalent in USD/EUR provides the orphans with schooling, uniforms, supplies, textbooks, additional food, involvement in extracurricular activities, and health insurance for a whole year. In addition to their days spent in the classroom, the sponsored children in Cameroon also learn about the world through direct experience – we regularly organize educational trips to various places in Yaoundé or its surroundings. It is important to add that sponsored children remain in the care of the orphanage until they become self-reliant after high school or university.

Help them become role models for others

Working together with the orphanage of Upendo and the Little Acorns School, we seek to provide children with a secondary education so that they can then further their education at university. Our goal is for graduates to receive job offers from local GL Africa partners in the agricultural, health and IT sectors. Sponsorship takes the form of continuous financial support to develop an individual’s future.

Our Partners in Tanzania

The orphanage cares for up to 60 children up to the age of 8 years old. Its staff includes volunteers from Austria and Germany. We chose Upendo because of its great organization, long-term experience and dedication to working with children.

This school is an outstanding elementary school providing an extended curriculum in English. Some subjects are imparted by teachers from Europe. At the moment, one of the biggest educational issues in Tanzania is the low percentage of adequately trained teachers available, causing problems with the overall quality of the education imparted. Consequently, we have selected a school capable of diligently educating the children under our sponsorship according to European standards

We are looking for sponsors for children from the Upendo orphanage. These children will attend Little Acorns Elementary School as a direct result of sponsorship donations. Having finished the elementary school, the sponsored children will go on to study at secondary school. The amount of sponsorship, however, remains the same as the one during the child’s attendance of elementary school. The annual sponsorship amount is 25.000 CZK or its equivalent in USD/EUR. This amount covers the full cost of attending school, including annual school fees, uniforms, snacks, lunches, textbooks, exercise books, leisure activities and daily transport from the orphanage to school and back. It is important to add that sponsored children remain in the care of the orphanage until they become self-reliant after high school or university.
